Who Critiques Films Anyway?

Like much of the entertainment industry, the film critic field is comprised of mainly white men. This can be a problem as critiques often define what is "worth watching," and Hollywood listens along with many moviegoers.

In Critic's Choice? Gender and Race/Ethnicity of Film Reviews Across 100 Top Films of 2017  the USC Anneberg School for Communication and Journalism found that over 70 percent of film critics are men. Break that down by race and you get 63.9 percent white men.
