'Godard Mon Amour' is not for everyone

4/25/2018

Godard Mon Amour chronicles the love story between actress Anne Wiazemsky and French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard amid the turbulent 1960s. Ironic, metaphysical, and entirely French -- this film is not for everyone.

'I Stand' is a powerful reminder of ongoing injustices

4/12/2018

I Stand: The Guardians of The Water chronicles the earliest days of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation's fight against the Dakota Access Pipeline, and follows the story up to President Obama blocking it.

However, in January 2017, President Trump reversed Obama's decision. Since then the Keystone XL Pipeline, which parallels the DAPL, has leaked in South Dakota. Reuters reported at the beginning of April that the spill is larger than previously estimated.

In I Stand, we hear from tribe members and community leaders. It exposes not only the injustices done to the Standing Rock tribe, but the long history of abuses by America towards her native peoples.

It's a powerful film that we wished we could have seen much sooner.

Phoenix Film Festival 2018 has upped its foreign film game this year. With so many strong entries it's hard to know what to pick. But we're both glad we decided to see Die Beste Aller Welten --  or The Best of All Worlds.
Like an Austrian version of The Florida Project we found this film touching, funny, and heartrending all at once.
